In the vicinity of Frankfurt/Main's main railway station, the demolition of the goods station has opened up new areas for the Europaviertel district. On the south-eastern edge of the Europaviertel, there are plans to construct two high-rise buildings around 120 metres and 100 metres high respectively, as well as several 6-storey residential buildings on the site, which is bordered by Mainzer Landstrasse, Europapark, Frankenallee and Güterplatz. In addition, an underground railway station and its access structures are to be built on Güterplatz.
For the construction of the buildings with two basement storeys, an excavation pit with dewatering is to be constructed on an area of around 14,000 m². GuD Geotechnik und Dynamik Consult GmbH was commissioned to supervise the award of the contract for the specialised foundation engineering services and to supervise the construction of the specialised foundation engineering work for the excavation pit and the dewatering.
The area is to be tunnelled under by the U5 underground line. In order to decouple possible vibrations caused by the underground railway operation on the high-rise building, GuD was commissioned to provide consulting services and to develop a forecast for the decoupling of dynamic vibrations on the high-rise building. As the project progressed, GuD was also responsible for supervising the installation of elastic elements on the structure to ensure the decoupling of the dynamic excitation of the tower block.
