The event organised by the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute (BAW) was entitled ‘Cases of damage - lessons learned in geotechnical engineering’ and took place on 5 September 2024 at the Catholic Academy in Hamburg.
The colloquium was dedicated to the question of how damage cases can be excluded or at least reduced with the help of normative regulations and project-accompanying quality assurance. Past cases of damage and possible approaches to preventing damage were the focus of the discussion.
In the presentation on the joint inspector by Nikolaus Schneider from GuD, a key aspect of avoiding leaking diaphragm walls was presented. In particular, the aspect of fault detection in the diaphragm wall joint during construction was emphasised.
